October Country I've said elsewhere that "Fly" is my favorite on this extraordinary album, and that is a great song. But you have to listen to "Graven." Holy cow. Great3 (cubed), if that is such a thing. Favorite track: Graven.

his face, so full of miles, he’s been around the circle, gone around the block, he’s so calm, yet so wild, he will make you scream while he makes you smile somehow, his hands have seen the earth, and in every place, they have made a space, where the pen has given birth, to a generation that will know they’re worth someday, he’s got the words for the world to see, that we haven’t changed, no we haven’t changed, oh no… we’ve got awards and we have sailed the sea, but things haven’t changed, no they haven’t changed, oh no… yet somehow, you will smile and scream… he will show the world; he will show the nothing changes… they will see, he’s a cowboy, they will see, he's an unforsaken cowboy...

Fly 05:19
… so you take me by the hand and you show me all is right, high above where blue turns black the air is thin, my thoughts are bright and we fly! we fly… I see the oceans, I see the sand, I see the rivers across the land, I see the mountains reach for the sky, I see the birds and that are passing by, I see the moon and I see the stars, I see the earth with all its scars, I don’t see lines like you have drawn, but I see the wars that they have spawned… … so you take me by the hand and you show me all is right, high above where blue turns black the air is thin, my thoughts are bright and we fly! we fly… I see the house where I was born and I see a place that is overgrown, I see the town that I left behind oh I see the dreams that I left to find, I see my mother and how she worries that I’m never coming home, though she taught me from a child that I carry home with me, oh I carry home with me, now, I don’t see love, I feel it, and it makes a place for all I know, to kneel and pray…
3.
Slow 04:18
this life, so short, so long, yet so timed. the centuries are racing through the clouds, but the hours, so slow... so slow... your love so far, so close, so good, is built into the highways of my blood. and I’m ready for the selfless life with a dog and a kid and a morning drive, but would you mind just taking this one slow? so slow… 'cause once I was younger, but I’m older now, the world changed around me and I froze, your eyes, so big, so kind, so blind, are looking at a world they cannot see, for shadow marks the path of life that’s following a satellite we’re moving at the speed of light so slow... so slow... well once I was older but I’m younger now, the world changed around me and I froze… to be born again in a different time where the future had arrived... I opened my eyes, I learned how to walk, your love, so big, so close, so good, is flowing through the highways of my mind, so kind, and so slow...

Graven 03:01
saving bodies to rise we pray to the skies our sins to forgive then lie forgotten in boxes rotten and wait on license to breathe but did you think that your mind would never outgrow you? and did you think that your eyes could believe? well baby that just ain't so eyes in graves with your faces graven in stones unable to see offerings burn while the children learn to believe that death sets them free but did you think that your mind would never outgrow you? and did you think that your eyes could believe? well maybe that just ain't so... oh, and now, that you rise into boxes of glass I see all that is left of you is me and did you think that your mind would never outgrow you? and did you think that your eyes could believe?
5.
Sister When 04:10
you say when, I will open my eyes just to hold you if you're scared now the voice in my heart will sing for you if you're lonely there's space in my mind just to know you and the air that I breathe you can have as your own sister when are you coming around to see what i see coming around with this star that shines for you... I remember those knots in your hair use to haunt you now you're grown and they seem to have grown all around you but the girl that would climb on the washer for candy knows quite well what the right motivation can do sister when are you coming around to see what i see coming around with this star that shines for you to see all that I see when you're looking at me with those round little eyes shining 'round the world for me... if tomorrow does not understand the way you love and the past seems unable to cope with you changing there's a place where you only exist in this moment and the world sings a song that i'm writing for you
6.
the silence seems cold, the rain like knives, the walls too tall to climb, begging for change, people pass by, always a step behind, but there’s a way, we open our eyes, look out to the world, from the stars… the violence gets old, the wasting of lives, a view of ourselves unkind, begging for change, the days go by, looking for time to unwind… but there’s a way, we open our eyes, look out to the world, from the stars… a memory fades, a branded tear dries, the future is now more bright… is it all far away from here? oh from here you like fine…
7.
The Island 03:36
I went a mile to the horizon but the horizon moved away then all the voices started laughing ‘cause all my travels were in vain so I sailed... I took a step out on the water to prove that I was who I thought but all the salt in all the oceans was not enough to hold me up so I swam... one day I washed up on an island and found the voices were all gone they’d given up on trying to change me and I was scared to be alone but there’s a little one that still remains... saying, “you don’t have to be afraid you don’t have to change… where you go, there I am you are not alone… “you’re home...”
8.
Day by Day 04:36
oh stay just for a while, and stay so that I can see you smile, ‘cause I’m whipping away your tears with my lips… oh stay so that I know I can fix this… and won’t you stay until the night has passed and there’s no turning back, so I can see what your face does to light and taste your morning lips… oh I would love to see you live: day by day… and I would like to see you smile… another day… oh stay another while, and stay so that I can see you smile, so I can smile; so that I can smile… ‘cause I won’t smile; no I won’t… if you don’t stay until the night has passed and there’s no turning back, so I can see what your face does to light and taste your morning lips… another day...
9.
so many ages ago, so many worlds away, a star collapsed and then she set out on her way shot across the emptiness of the mighty black, saw all the faces of the valiant past, you've always said that someday a different world would shine its light on who you are, tonight she's gonna shine on you now who... are you gonna be? now who... a billion years she spent forging an iron heart, then there was nothing left but to tear it apart, you've always said someday a different world would know exactly who you are, tonight she knows no one but you now who... are you gonna be? now who...
10.
Fireworks 05:21
It's a quarter to ten, fourth of July, you're a thousand miles away, and the echoes of the night say that I should feel free, but instead, for lack of feeling, I'm sitting here dreaming of a different land, where you're the queen and I'm your people, and my every waking hour belongs to you... hold me and take me up, help me to feel the things you feel as you rise... hold me and burn me up, make me to see the things you see when you're gone... if you're gone...
